eastern porgss of massachusetts, connecticut and the state of rhode island could look at over six inches of snow with areas possibly seeing a foot of snow. so again the chance of seeing more snow from this next storm system is increasing here. it is pulling in a lot of moisture from the gulf of mexico. that is one of the reasons why we think we could see a little more than originally anticipated. right now it is producing snow across areas in chicago, northern parts of the state of indiana that into michigan. on the southern end of the storm system we have showers and thunderstorms in louisiana, mississippi and tennessee. eventually both of these areas will be coming together and moving towards the northeast. i do quickly want to point out between these areas we're actually seeing freezing rain falling early this morning across places in arkansas and northern texas. please drive carefully out there. that is outside the city of memphis as well. western portions of state of tennessee dealing with possible icing on the roadways. otherwise a number of winter weather advisories issued for the

obviously a very somber day here as you mentioned in connecticut. across this country as the 26 people who lost their lives last friday were being remembered with these tolling of the bells, not just here at connecticut but around the country as well and for a lot of people time simply stopped last friday and hasn't moved in a lot of ways. it is still 9:30, december 14th. for so many family is here and so many friends of those families that are sharing such anguish and such a sense of loss and senselessness at the whole situation last week just up the road here with those 20 young children, those six adults who lost their lives in such a brutal way last week. now, some churches around the country have decided to add a 27th bell toll and a 28th bell toll in memory of the family of the lanza family, nancy lanza, the mother of adam lanza, as well. but a lot of these folks, they know that time will eventually heal all the wounds. at this moment, though, they are finding that it is going to take a sense of community, a sense of bringing everyone together

connecticut has a very strong set of gun laws. an assault weapons ban that ironically did not cover the weapon used in this case apparently. they tried to limit the high capacity clips and faced tremendous pressure. they weren't able to do that. but they still have tough laws. how do you change the dynamic? you say that this does change it automatically. >> the first thing, david, is having tough laws is one thing. enforcing those laws is something different. legislators' jobs is to come up with jobs, come up with agreements, get everybody into a room, form a bipartisan coalition, get everybody something. most of them get the -- the majority get the most of it. an executive's job is to make a decision. take the law and go out and apply it given the intent of the law. and that's exactly what we do in new york city. the fact that we have the lowest murder rate of any big city in the country says we know what we're doing. and we have it every year. we have had a reduction in murder rate virtually every single year for the last 20 yea
